Management of Major Emergencies

Course Aim

To provide emergency management teams and leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to discharge their emergency command responsibilities competently in order to safeguard personnel, the environment and company assets.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the training workshop and practical exercise the delegates will have experienced the following:

  • The roles and responsibilities of the emergency management team during an emergency.

  • The characteristics of an emergency and how emergencies follow a predictable timeline and how to predict and get ahead of the timeline.

  • How an emergency management team should assess priorities and determine actions to be taken.

  • How to manage information during an emergency and achieve and maintain effective communications throughout the emergency.

 

Target Audience

Offshore emergency management personnel and others can be included that form part of the emergency response.

Course Program : 

Day One

  • Introductions and review of course aim and expected outcomes

  • Review of the prevailing emergency management philosophy in the oil & gas industry

  • Industry standards and performance expectations

  • Role and responsibilities of the facility emergency management team and supporting organisations

  • Practical Exercise No 1

  • Debrief and performance review

 

Day 2

  • Review of command and control duties and techniques in managing their effective application.

  • Review of communications techniques required for emergency conditions

  • Examination of hazards and risks present on oil and gas facilities and review of appropriate actions to take in specific emergency situations.

  • Practical Exercise No 2

  • Debrief and performance review

  • Debrief and performance review

 

Day 3

  • Explanation of the causes and symptoms of stress, the impact of stress during an emergency and how it should be managed

  • Review of techniques to manage emergency situations with an emphasis on facility evacuation or abandonment.

  • Practical Exercise No 4

  • Debrief and performance review
